The Oak Tree Camps Difference,

A Program and Philosophy that Delivers Results

Summer is a very special time when a child seeks to learn, explore and develop new skills, hobbies, and interests. Our program is specifically designed to meet the diverse and ever-expanding interests and recreational needs of our campers. Because our emphasis is on participation, personal achievement and skill attainment rather than on competition alone, campers of every age and skill level are made to feel comfortable and successful.

Through the use of scheduled activity periods and structured electives, each camper can experience a well-rounded program that includes athletics, aquatics, creative arts and outdoor adventures. Our elective program allows each camper to have direct input into their daily schedule. During elective periods, campers may wish to try new activities, concentrate on their favorite ones or enhance their existing skills by participating in individualized instruction or clinics.

The Oak Tree Enrichment Triad Model

Broken down into 3 Activity Types, our model is designed to be a complete, comprehensive, challenging and above all else, EFFECTIVE.

TYPE 1 Activity

Designed to expose students to a wide variety of disciplines, topics, occupations, hobbies, and events that would not be covered in a traditional classroom setting. Type 1 experiences can involve the following: Contacting speakers, arranging special demonstrations, possible field trips, and/or performances, using varied materials such as videos, print and non-print media.

TYPE 2 Activity

Promote the development of thinking and feeling processes such as: Creative thinking, problem solving, and critical thinking skills. Campers are introduced to a wide variety of topics and expand upon their written, oral, and visual communication.

TYPE 3 Activity

Involve pursuing “self-selected” areas (within guideline topics) for advanced content acquisition and process training in which students assume the role of first-hand inquirer. The goals of these type activities include the following: Providing opportunities to apply interests, knowledge, creative ideas, and task commitment to a specific program, acquiring advanced-level understanding of knowledge (content) and methodology (process) Developing self-directed learning skills in the areas of planning, organization, resource utilization, time management, decision-making, and self-evaluation Developing task commitment, self-confidence, and feelings of creative accomplishment.
